Maria Luiza beach is definitely worth a visit, and there’s no end of sun loungers and water sports, while you can take advantage of the ideally situated beach bar if you need to quench your thirst. Balaia Golf Village is something of a hidden gem so you do get substantial seclusion, but the thriving town of Albufeira is only a short drive or bus journey away. Here you’ll be able to absorb the history and culture of this wonderful town, many of whose churches date back to the 1500s.

  1. Play a game of golf. Many people head to Balaia to make the most of the Algarve region's golf courses. Stay in the golf village and you will have access to a 9 hole, 3 par course right on your doorstep.
  2. Visit Maria Luiza beach. This stunning stretch of golden sand is just a short walk away. There are plenty of sun loungers available and a local beach bar.
  3. Try out some water sports. You will find a range of activities available, from windsurfing to rides in giant rubber rings.
  4. Spend a day at Zoomarine. See dolphins, seals, birds of prey and a variety of marine animals. There are also water slides and fairground rides for the more thrill-seeking visitors.
  5. Visit the town of Albufeira. A short bus journey or drive will take you to this lovely historic town just a little further down the coast. See churches and landmarks dating back to the 1500s, then later, experience the vibrant nightlife on offer in the town's many bars and clubs.
  6. Dine on delicious local cuisine. There are plenty of places to eat in the vicinity of the golf village, as well as in Albufeira. The Cataplana stews in this area are particularly renowned.
  7. Practice your game at the driving range. There is easy access to the golfing village's very own facilities.
  8. Relax by the pool. Select a sun lounger, bring a good book and enjoy some peace and quiet whilst working on your tan.
  9. Explore the market at Loule. Saturday is the liveliest time to go, but the market is open most mornings and this charming market town is always a pleasure to visit.
  10. Take a boat trip. Many boat trips leave from nearby Albufeira, allowing you to take in the gorgeous scenery and dramatic coastlines of this area. If you're lucky, you might even spot wild dolphins.
